Reading is a popular, multicultural town within close proximity to London; in fact the capital is a mere 25 minute train ride away. Reading is home to a number of large businesses, particularly in the IT and insurance sectors. Reading is one of the top commercial town’s in the country and it is not uncommon for big businesses to set up offices here; it is cheaper to run a business based in Reading, salaries for jobs are less, rent for offices is less, but London is not too far to travel to should it be necessary.

Reading has a large population and a growing workforce. There are plenty of jobs in Reading and the town is known to have the second highest employment rate in England. It is believed that Reading’s economy will grow rapidly in the next 5 years, mainly down to these areas of business.

Some of the major IT firms have head offices based in the area employing a huge number staff in jobs in Reading. Just on the outskirts of Reading is Thames Valley Business Park, home to the likes of Microsoft and Cisco. The business park is located next to the M4, making the journey into London a breeze.

However, it is not only the IT sector that is thriving in Reading; the public sector offers job seekers thousands of job opportunities in Reading as Berkshire’s administrative centre. Government and education sectors are some of the top employers across the region, and Reading Borough Council employees an estimated 5500 staff alone.

Despite not yet being being granted city status, Reading has a hugely popular University that also employs a large workforce with around 4000 staff working in various jobs. Many financial businesses are also choosing to relocate to the area, opening up number of jobs in Reading. Another big employer in Reading is Yell Plc who have their Head Office based in the centre of Reading.
