It may be a new year and a fresh start for some, but for employees of Hewlett-Packard and the makeup company Revlon, 2014 has started with a bang for all the wrong reasons.
Both major businesses have revealed plans for job cuts in 2014, resulting in thousands of employees losing their jobs. Hewlett-Packard have announced that more than 5,000 jobs will be axed this year, some of which might take place at their Bracknell base in Berkshire. The plan is to reduce the number of job opportunities available with the firm, losing around 34,000 jobs in total.
Revlon has revealed they are closing their base in China and axing over 1,000 jobs in total. The company has seen majorly reduced sales across the world, and is planning to cut jobs in a bid to reduce overall company costs.
The announcements from both companies comes as a blow to employees, and sheds a somewhat glum light over the start of 2014.
